"But then when I removed the front passenger seat my mileage REALLY improved.

Helps not to have the wife along"

I hope everyone figures thier milage with a pencil as the average milage shown on the insterment panel is just that: AVERAGE.

Around town I get: 18 -20, highway 24.7 has been the best. I have 5400+ miles on my '06.

I took a 500 mile trip down to Florida a while back and averaged 36mpg on the highway. Doing mixed highway and city I get about 22mpg.

The average mileage on the first trip was 17.9 mpg. The second trip

22-30. Not even close.

We have a 1999 corvette coupe with 400 horsepower and we get almost 30
mpg on the highway with it!!!

Why the heck can't this little 4 cylinder PT Cruiser get better mileage?

Anyone else have similar problems?
Just checked my used 2002 for the first time and I am very miffed at 18 mpg! My 300 horse Vette gets better mileage!! That's the reason I bought this Cruizer! (And gas here in Hawaii is $3.52 a gallon at Costco! (Part of the mileage problem is they pee in it with 10% ethanol). -Pila

We're in the middle of the winter blend fuels. Things will slowly inprove after March 15th. By May you will pick up three to four more miles per Gallon. This junk Enthenol isn't doing our mileage much go either. There's been a 20% drop in fuel mpg since it first came out and that's in the Summer grade fuels so you can see what it's doing to winter grades.

HA, HA! Screwed again! I'm in Hawaii, there IS no winter! Bad fuel, worse mechanics and double the price. Paradise can be hell. Anybody see that old Twilight Zone of the crook that thought he went to heaven? -Pila

Lots of good points but don't forget that you are only paying $3-3.5 / gallon.
People buy the PT in europe and put up with the mpg while paying $9!

I used to have a lexus 4.0 V8 in the UK and my 250 miles/week to work cost me $130 in fuel (untill I converted it to propane).

I just did 230 miles in my 2003 PT GT too and from Chicago and I re-filled for $38 (10.5 gallons), that's less than 1/3 of the cost... I love the gas prices here and screw the mpg! spool that turbo up!

You're talking to the wrong guy with that spiel, but after 4 years in Vienna (with a Corvette that gets better mileage than my PT) I admire the "bubble your in". A man has to have his own outlook, and yours is much more positive than mine right now. I guess it has to do with her getting the 50, 000 BMW in the settlement (which also gets better mileage than my PT). Welcome home and enjoy your "philosophy". I hope it outlasts the housing crunch and the next administration. Aloha!

I keep a record of my MPG everything I fill up my 04GT. So far I'm averaging 25.52 MPG, Low was 16.22MPG but one time I hit 31.05MPG.

I drove a company 06turbocharged a few times w/ the onboard MPG indicator... I wouldn't trust that thing much because I got higher MPG calculations by taking the mileage driven divided by gas purchased. That calculation was always more than the onboard one.
