I have a 04 Platinum Limited Edition that I just got. I have a K&N filter, alignment just done, new tires, new Magnecor wires, and new Iridium spark plugs. I am only getting about 220-230 miles a fill up. So, what is that? About 15 mpg. 3/4 of the time I am driving I am on the freeway. So, what's up with that? I don't drive hard, I try not to go above 3000 rpm, but I need to going up hills, otherwise I'll be going 40 mph on the freeway. This car is a brick. I had a Lexus GS300 before this that got better gas mileage, which according to the EPA, I shouldn't be. Is there anything else I can do to improve my mileage? I have a turbo lite, should I be using regular gas to improve my mileage? Thanks.

You were wondering about your mileage and stated 220-230 miles to a fillup. You'll have to divide the miles driven by the gallons to find the mileage so we can get a idea. What was the gap set on your plugs? That could determine good or bad mileage. The Turbo lite is designed to use regular gas. Most Turbo's that I have seen will have a tag on the gas cover saying to use premium gas IF they are a HO Turbo, if it doesn't you should be using regular as you are just wasting money by using premium.

Thanks Hooligan.
I gapped mine at .45. I read that the gap is a good middle ground between performance and fuel savings. I am getting better gas mileage now. Those idiots at Firestone didn't inflate my tires properly, it was down to 32 psi. But, I will try to keep track over five fill-ups to see how it goes, b/c one fill-up is not a good estimate. I find going up hills with my PT a challenge, unless I go above 35000 rpms. Then, I think the turbo kicks in and goes into the final gear. But, I know if I keep flooring it, then I am burning extra gas. |

.040 is to be used on a Non-Turbo. I have no idea on what to gap a Turbo, someone will jump in here and tell you.

I wish I got better gas milage, but because the Michigan Interstate speed limit is currently set at 70mph, with the drivers going 85 cruising and just staying with traffic is hard to keep descent gas milage. I have the KN&N Drop in Air Filter, new tires with about 2-3 PSI more than recommended, I try to use that Fuel Injector cleaner solution stuff, but nothing seems to be working.
I am averaging about 20MPG per fill up. Thing is, when my fuel gauge reads that I am on "E" I actually have a good 50 more miles on the tank (did a little experiment with a 5gal. gas tank in the back seat.) Although 20mpg isn't too shabby for a PT, I wish I got more. I won't be greedy though because of that fact its a PT!!
