Default 30K mile service on 2001PT, >$700?

I called one local dealer for routine 30K mile service and given the quote of >$700, and the other dealer gave quote of >$370. As far as I can see change of oil, filter, adjust belt, change spark plugs and air cleaner are involved.

Does anyone have suggestions?, seems the price is excessive. Shall I consider getting the proper parts (I know some discussions on different spark plug brands etc) and go to an independent shop?

thanks,

gychang

$370 maybe, $700 never. I paid around $200 just for plugs and wires. Labor on a changes of plugs is high due to the need to remove part of the intake to get to them.

Plugs & wires can be changed by almost anyone if you are interested enough to check it out. I changed mine in about 1 1/2 hours both plugs & wires. Heck, I'll change anyones for $200.00 which seems excessive to me.

Ask to see their gun - if they're gonna rob you, they should at least have a gun.

Order Crane Wires and a K&N air filter(www.RaceAndStreet) - get plugs from Sparkplugs.Com, and either replace yourself or go to a local mechanic.
Screw adjusting the belts (or have mechanic look at them) & get an oil change.
You should be under $300, and have better stuff than dealer would put in.

Providing that Almost Anyone has a good torque wrench that is accurate in the gentle numbers that aluminum heads and plastic manifolds call for...but you only have to buy a good tool once.
