I am a newbie here, with minor mechanical abilities (can change oil, plugs in non PT etc.)

is there any details/pics on how to improve my 2001PT, with auto transmission?, I will change to mobil1 next time...

That's probably the easiest way to more power, but not pracical for many.

No matter what you do (other than throw in NOS or a supercharger) your probably not going to see the kind of power increase your looking for. Keep it tuned properly, look through the search feature and see what others have done to increase intake and exhaust. Until the Turbo's came along, the PT CRUISER was just that. Cruise along and enjoy the ride. Personally, I find it keeps up with 95% of the traffic, will certainly get to way above the speed limit and cruise at any speed you set the cruise control to.

Now, if your trying to dodge bullets out there in Calif, that's another story.

If you don't need the rear seats, take them out - they're heavy.
Keep the tires pumped up - I go 2-3 PSI over the door sticker numbers (less rolling resistance).
Do a search on intake, and a search on exhaust, and since you have an '01 auto, search on "shift mod".

ok, ok. You want to increase the airflow to the engine, and then decrease the back pressure in the exhaust. That means: Get a K&N dropin filter, remove the silencers, if you have a manual trans, procure the throttle body from an auto cruiser. You could also switch to a GT manifold. A lot of us have gone to the composite manifold and just have our aluminum ones sitting around. Look in the haves/havenots...Then look into a nice header, a free flowing cat and a nice 2.5" exhaust. And remember duals are for looks, a nice single exhaust works just as well. It's up to you. You may want to look into the Jet Chip, I don't know, I'm not NA. If you want to get really wild, there are a couple different cam grinds available. Also, adjustable cam gears and underdrive pulleys. You could always overbore the cylinders and .040 over Wiseco's in to bump up the displacement a bit. Shave the head a bit to bump the compression. Or, call Hahn and go turbo. I wouldn't recommend any of the superchargers out there. Not enough bang for the buck. Or go with some NOS. Guess it all depends on what your final use would be. You want a screamin track car? Or a nice, quicker than stock daily driver?......

Buy a Supercharger or after market Turbo upgrade. Best way to see significant gains. I have an 02 with the Jackson Racing Supercharger. Works great and it is more rare.

Changing to Mobil-1 is really only effective if you do it when the car is brand new because it prevents friction wear. But on a 2001 you've already done the damage so it may not help.
