Welcome!!!

The 2005 Sedan uses an electric membrain switch under the handle on the hatch. Earlier PTs used a mechanical lever. The switch may be bad. Do you live in a cold climate? Sometimes these type of switches act up in the cold. The rubber/plastic shrinks/ get stiff in the cold and the circuit could close opening the hatch.
If you have under 36,000 miles, you should still be covered by the factory warranty. Have a dealer check it out.

Welcome Robbi,
If you Have a spare key, use it to unlock the car, leave your fob away from the car (in the house) maybe it's picking up the signal?

Welcome, Robbi.
I can vouch for that it's not normal.
Suggest you call dealer and speak to service manager - he may have suggestions to try - if not, bring it in - make them fix it.

You are all absoloutely amazing.......much, much useful info here for which I am most grateful........my sweet (but obviously slightly eccentric) Cruiser is a used 2005 Limited with 22,500 miles....warmish climate ( Northern California)......and get this: I've just discovered that if I turn the key first to ACC before turning it in the proper direction to start it, the trunk doesn't pop open.....curiouser and curiouser......

Bijou,

Even though you bought your car used, it is still covered by manufacturer's warranty for 3 years/ 36,000 miles. You have 13,500 miles and at least one year left if it was purchased by the original owner in mid-2004.

I'd take it into the dealership- either where you bought it or the closest Chrysler dealership to you.

If the warranty doesn't cover it for some odd reason, try duct tape!

Welcome to the fun! [8)]
