Hi....just thought I'd bring you up to date re the trunk problem thing, just in case anyone out there ever runs across this particular gremlin.....(just to recap: for some reason, every time I'd start the car, the trunk would pop open....then I discovered that if I turned it first to ACC and then started it, the trunk would stay put and I could happily be on my way)......well, I finally got around to taking my 2005 Cruiser and my problem to the dealer......just before I went, I started the engine three separate times and all three times the trunk popped open.......so, I get to the dealer and explain my problem....much head scratching and strange looks directed my way.....no, really, I say, watch this.....I start the car......nothing.......no trunk popping open.......four or five more times I start the car.....but the trunk stays firmly shut.......really, I said, I swear this has been going on for weeks.....really, really.......so they take the car and do some testing but can't find anything wrong......and since then, I've started the car more than a dozen times and the trunk stays most definitely shut......go figure.....

I have the same problem with my 2005. It is in the shop for the 4th time and they think I am some dumb woman that doesn't know what she is talking about. It has happened to my husband more than three times as well. Has there been any new discoveries since this problem was first posted. I am desperate for an answer here.

Hi Bijou,
Had the same problem with the wife's 2005 PT a week ago which prompted me to join this forum. Did not find anyone with the same problem until now. Noticed when starting the car the rear hatch would release. It progressed after two days to releasing when moving the shifter into drive and even when using the key to open the door instead of using the remote. It also released when pushing the power door lock switch on the door. I cured all problems when I pulled the fuse to the RKEM (#3). I started the car and and then tried to unlock the doors. Found I can't release the locks using the power door lock switch(must be tied into the RKEM) and had to manually pull up on the lock. Anyway...to cut to the chase...when I put the fuse back in everything was back to working as normal. Been a week so far with no problem. Since the RKEM is a programmable unit I figure the programming was corrupted and pulling the fuse rebooted it. Hope this helps.
