Default Foglights not working

I have a 2001 PT limited edition, and had a little problem today

Here is what happened: I noticed smoke coming out of the hazard switch hole on the steering column, and the foglight indicator was lit on the dash. After a while, the light went out, and now the foglights don't work at all. The fuses are all ok. Any thoughts? Is it the switch? Thank you all.

What you have is a burnt out multi-function switch. It's happened to lots of PT owners. Our resident expert (MX-5) has identified the problem as a very small part in the switch that doesn't hold up to the heat that's generated when the fog lights are on. Some seem to last a long time, while others only make it a couple of years. There's no fix as of right now. You have to replace the whole stalk. They run somewhere around $60 (I think) and if you have any capability of handling a few tools, you can do it your self. A few screws on the steering column and on the stalk itself. Two wiring harnesses have to come off and the new switch installed in it's place.

Oh yea, WELCOME to the forum.

Good answer Crewzin, but I think if you go to the dealer the MF switch is higher than $60.

You might try e bay or a junkyard (recycleyard) for a replacement.

Crewzin, you continue to amaze me, even at the lofty pedestal I have placed you on.

Bob, you continue to provide really supportive feedback.

I realize this post has no real merit, but I've had three dogfish head beers and feel really happy.

Don't forget to swap the flasher relay from the old MF switch to the new one. It's the Black cube on the back. Just hold up the two switches and it should be obvious. Good Luck!
