Default cruise control dropping

Has anyone had a problem with the cruise control dropping out? Mine will engage and then after a few minutes drop out- I can re-engage it but it will drop out quicker each time I try. Then the dash light "cruise" indicator will not light up. If I shut the engine off at a stop, the whole process repeats. Then occasionally it will work ok. Help!

Had cruise control added to my wife's new car (not a PT and didn't come with CC) and after about 2 months it started to do the exact same thing. I thought it might have been some sort of vacuum leak but when I took it back to the place that installed it, they said it was a bad solinoid. Only took about 20 minutes to fix it.

All electronic on models with throttle-by-wire (not PTs). Others use the PCM to actuate solenoids that open/close vacuum ports on a vacuum motor (PTs).
