Agreed, agreed.
My only gripe has been and will continue to be the fuel efficiency of the PT Cruisers. My SRT-6 gets better gas mileage for goodness sakes. Europe (as well) is full of small, fuel-friendly vehicles, however, if such a thing was available here in the states, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable driving one around with the rest of the large SUV's and incompetent drivers...

By the way, my comments were not directed solely at the current regime - we have done NOTHING since the earlier gas crises - Democrats AND Republicans have let us down. They forgot "provide for the common welfare" (no, not THAT welfare... )Brazil can make itself independent of petroleum imports - and we can't. ![]()

Its about time someone actually says that its not "only" Bushes fault. Its not. No one seems to be looking into the future. The future along the lines of car manufactures is, start making more fuel efficent cars/trucks. If a corvette can not only woop a$$ the PT Cruiser but in doing so get better gas mileage then something is wrong. Granted, I am sure money is envoled which speaks in volume but the car manufactures can do better but Washington DC doesn't really seem to be coming down on them. They can make deadlines if its do it or go out of business, which they seem to be starting now(talks of mergers and so on, they are in trouble). But of course, if the manufactures start going out of business then Washington bails them out. What can of incentive is that? I would love to have my business screw up and have someone bail me out. Maybe I should write a letter to Washington to ask for help. Fat chase. I'm not paying off anyone. Don't think I'm making sense but anyway. |

The vette does carry metal weight about 150 lbs less. It does have 400 hp verses the GT's 240 hp. Miles per gallon give or take is about the same. If the GT had 400 hp it would probably get no more then 10 mpg.
Again, more money went into the vette engine but it only goes to show that a high horse power engine can get decent milage. What about the Honda nsx , about 500 lbs less then the cruiser, six cylinder, 290hp can give the vette a run for the money and on top of that get even better gas mileage. Again, both of these cars are more money, but a better fuel efficient engine can be made but Washington doesn't put enough pressure on them to do so. So, buyers are bailing out to overseas models leaving American manufactures playing catch up once again. Of course all off topic. The pacific coast cruiser is over priced for what you get. Buy a plain one and mod away. |

Washington does not have to put pressure on anyone to improve fuel efficiency. The market is doing so.
Of course now that gas prices are dropping, MPG is no longer as important a selling point. Note that the Vette is able to generate great EPA and highway cruise numbers; but if you check out the 'observed' MPG by the more lead-footed reviewers you will see that if you USE all 500 horsies you gotta buy a lot more 'oats'.
