Default trouble with fog light switch?

Hey has anyone else had any trouble out of the fog light switch? About 5 times within the past month and 1/2 the battery on my 02 Pt has been dead when I would go out to go home from work. What was draining it was a mystery until about 2 weeks ago when my neighbor said your lights are on in the PT. I said no they can't be I haven't been in my car today. Well sure enough the fog lights were on, but the fog light switch was off. It did it today again. When we left for church this morning (took hubby's jeep) the car was fine. Came home unlocked the car popped the hood (had to check power steering fluid) and my husband said the lights are on, but the light switch was in the off position. Sure enough the battery was dead so I'm charging the battery again.

If you've had this problem please let me know. I hate to have to keep boosting it off when it does this.

Wires have melted and fires have started because of that multifunction switch. Get it fixed as soon as possible.

Did you replace the bulbs with a higher wattage than 55W. Those who have replaced bulbs with higher wattage have had wires burn up back to the mfs and cause problems. Hope this helps. Also do a search here

That's the biggest problem I've seen with this switch on the forums, but there are also some who have had the problem you had. The change isn't very difficult or expensive from what I've read. Fortunately neither one of ours (2001 & 2002) has had that problem.

Nope we haven't replaced the lights at all. My husband pulled the fuse yesterday until I can get the switch replaced.

Thanks for all the help.

may i start with what an excellent forum this is with out some people on here iwould really be in trouble and maybe dead as my indicator lights did not work. the multi-fuction switch is what caused my fog lights to not turn off and my indicators turning off randomly. it ook me abou 10mins to fit a quick guide for anyone who is intterested.

1. remove the two screws under the seering box
2. pull apart the two pieces of the steering box
3. un screw the 2 Star screws going down into the switch boxs
4. un screw the 2 smaller star screws on the wiper side of the sitch boxes
5. prize both the wiper and the multi-funcion switch apart
6. unplug the wire harness from the multi-function switch
7. swap over the rely from the old MF switch to the new one
8. put it all back together by reversing steps 1-5

also to note the par number for my new switch was different from the old one the chrysler garage told me that they had improved the switch(yeah i belive him)

Welcome, Geeze.
The real problem isn't the switch, but the lack of relays - if the switch was only carrying current to flip a relay, it'd be fine, but instead it carries the current of the headlights and fog lights! [:0]

It's the multifunction switch, no doubt about it, had this same problem on my 02 limited edition. Many, Many, Many posts on this problem through the years.
