Default 2006 Cruiser Shift Knob Removal

How do I get the shift knob off of the stick to change it out. I tried to turn it and pull it but it will not move. You help would be appreciated

First: Welcome to the forums. It's a pretty friendly and helpful bunch here. Mostly.

On the 5-Speed: the shift knob is held by a 'spring' molded in the knob and an indentation in the shaft. (This was done for the usual answer whenever you encounter some bit of Bone-Headed design in your PT: It was the cheapest way.)

Basically PULL IT REALLY, REALLY HARD. Like you are going to break it. Basically you are.

Or slip a open end wrench on the shaft and Beat it UPWARD with a hammer.

Once you have done this, you will break the little plastic 'spring' in the factory knob, and it will probably never lock to the shaft again.

Hurst (who make another product you are probably familiar with) and B&M both make shifter kits for the PT, if you ever get tired of rowing the rubber-bands.
