Cabin air filter

I ordered and received my cabin air filter from an ebay source. It came with both the filter (the local dealer wanted $60.00 for) and the plastic housing. I found the instructions for installing filter in the package and it was the same as on the webpage you cited (I have a 2007 and it was the same as your 03). You need a few basic tools and around 10 minutes. My purchase was from Airpark Chrysler Jeep in Scottsdale AZ and their website is Affordable Parts and Accessories wholesale to the public.. Cost was $23.25 with shipping and I got the part in the orginal packaging in 2 business days. I have been looking for the Briggs and Stratton 5083 cited here as a replacement without luck.

Recently purchased a 2007 Touring Pastel Yellow. Wife loves it (you know what they say about keeping Mom happy) but has she major a allery thing going on with all the pollen in the air so she doesn't want to venture out much. Hey, you can't enjoy the cruiser much without cruisin. Found the cabin filter box but no filter installed. Did some searching around on the WIX website and found they make a filter. Part number 466999. I checked with my local NAPA parts store and they didn't have a filter listed for a PT Cruiser. I suggested they check using the WIX parts number.... hey they have 5 in stock at $13.69 a piece. I'll be stopping by this evening on the way home. Here's hoping it fits.

Update...... Got down to the Napa store and the filter was for the engine air intake. Seems that PTC cabin filters are "not available until officially announced'. What ever... So my option is buy on line for about $25 including shipping. Drive 20 miles to the dealer and spend close to $20 or........hmmmm, make my own. I took door no. three and after about 30 minutes effort things are good.

What'd I do? I went to the local ACE hardware and bought a sheet of stiff woven filter material (about 2' x 3' x 3/4") cut it with kitchen scissors to fit. I cut two pieces fit (4 1/2" x 8 7/8") and put in sandwich like. Put it back together and works fine. My thinking was if this stuff is good enough to keep my home central air clean it would do fine in the car. I can make about five more filters from the sheet. Total cost $7.50. So I spent about $1.25 on one set for the Cruiser. This is not a real high tech deal but much better than no filter at all.

Another bit I may add... I was at Home Depot this evening and found some filter fabric (as in cloth about as thick as my tee shirt) that one cuts and places over a regular filter. One type is white and static charged the other gray and includes woven charchol fibers which would help the filter clean. This might double the cost of my home brewed filter... to $2.50.

Some additional thoughts. 1. One needs to be careful that air can still pass though efficiently (seems to, I turned on the fan in the car and couldn't detect a decrease though there must be some. 2. Now I have a filter in I need to check periodically to see that it isn't so dirty that air is restricted... maybe every 3 or 4 thousand miles... about the time of an oil change. At least every six months

Chances are it may not have one, my 07 didn't. Just last week I ordered and installed one in my 07. Installing a Cabin Air Filter on an '03 PT Cruiser turbo... link is good for 07 too.

Thanks, "07Cruiser". BTW, my cruiser is almost a twin of yours. Red with alloy wheels. Do not have the spoiler. It's my little hot rod.

pics. Does your PT have fog lights? I just ordered the kit for mine.

It didn't when I bought it last year, but bought the kit and had a mechanic put them on for me. Really come in handy. Next project is plugs and wires to try to get some better gas milage.
