Default K&N Air filter install

Hi Everyone,

Picked up a 06 Convertible two weeks ago and mainly made the choice from a lot of reading on this site, thanks!

Went to change the air filter and notices oil at the bottom of the air box. Also there's a small filter on one side that has oil. Is this normal?

Thanks for any advice.

I just picked up my 2006 Convertible on Saturday! I went out to the garage just now to check my filter box, there isn't any oil in mine, but does your car happen to be a turbo? I know some turbo "blow by" some oil, and then that would explain it. Also there is the crank case breather that feeds into the box at that foam filter you are talking about. There could have just been a little extra oil that blew into the box from there too.

I would just clean up the oil, and then keep an eye on the box, and see if it comes back. If it does, there may be a problem. I am not an expert on these things, but I know my way around cars real well. Just clean it up, and keep an eye on it.

Normal. Just clean it out every so often and wash the foam filter in soap and water.

Thread Title states K&N. Is the filter a K & N drop-in filter? If so, there may have been a tad to much oil sprayed on after cleaning. In an K & N recharge kit, there ar 2 components. A spray on cleaner that you allow to stay on for a short period of time and then rinse thourghly. Then apply the filter-oil. It may had had a bit too much applied or put back in just a bit soon.

All three of my PT's had/have the same thing and so does my srt-4. John makes an interesting point when recharging your K&N filter, make sure it's dry, but I've gotten oil in the airbox when running with the stock filter, too. It's normal in any car out there.

I was replacing the stock filter with a new out-of-the-box K&N. It already had the lube job done. I left the stock in and dropped of the PT at the dealer. they'll call maƱana and let me know. Rep said it's something to do with evaporation and some valve could be not working properly. I'll know soon, thank God for them der warranties.

I appreciate all the responses...
