I bought a 2002 Limited with factory roof rack, cd/tape, heated seats in December 2001 for about $21,800 sticker. There were 7 or 8 on the lot to choose from. Nashville, TN.

I purchased a 2002 Base PT Cruiser 5 speed from my local dealer (a very small dealership as the town has less then 10,000 population) for just about 16k. The dealer keeps about 5 PTs in stock most of the time and isn't much on dealing price. According to the salesman who was one of the owners they have sold 60 PTs since they took over the dealership about 6 months ago, prior to that the old owner sold only two. It seems that availablity and the fact that you can buy a Cruiser at the list price has made them seem like they are cooling off but I would guess the sales number are higher. While I wanted a PT the day they were released for sale I was never going to pay an inflated price for one. I remember too well the Alante, Riata, price gouging and we all know what those cars are worth today.

We do the price gouging to our selves! All the people who could not wait to get the cruised allowed the price to rise. and every time sombody said yes ill pay that... the price goes higher. If thier had been a smaller boom for PT sales the price would have not gone as high.

I know somone who made one of the first 100 orders and paid 2500 under sticker. and another who had to have one when it was at the top of the boom and with his downpayment and loan payments to date still owes more than i got mine for.

its just supply and demand... we demanded to pay to much!

You ought to see the eyes of the people when we come rolling in. Last year, we took 45 PTs over Trail Ridge Road (the highest paved highway in the USA). When we came into a stopping area, all the people were taking pictures of some of the most beautiful mountains around.... but, when they saw us, all eyes turned and we were getting all the pictures taken of us. This year, we have plans for even a better cruise..... over Independance Pass and throught Aspen Colorado over to the mountain resort called Copper Mountain. Take time to go to our web site.... check out whats going to happen.... come join us, and see the reaction, and then ask yourself if the PT is loosing its interest.......

I would stop in my tracks at the sight of 45 PT's pulling into a rest area, too. That's a lot of cars. If 45 new Camaros pulled in at the same time or 45 AMC Pacers, for that matter..it would create a stir. A single PT by itself though, doesn't draw the crowds it used to. I couldn't even get out of my car a year ago without being approached about it. Today, people still notice it, but the fervor to see one "up close" is nowhere near the same. Don't get me wrong..I love this car to death, it's still one of the coolest, most unique cars around, and will be for a long time to come..but you have to admit..like all things in the public eye, newness wears off eventually. Nothing wrong with that.

Hi Cruisers, a $1000 cash rebate incentive was announced here in Detroit last friday on all 2002 models. It's for NE and Midwest only [sorry left coasters] I just bought a 2001 LE,Deep Cranberry, loaded [except for heated seats] with 8600 miles for $18000 out the door [ that's 6% sales tax, license & title transfer] The PT was built 4-19-01. I refused to pay the $4000 "dealer incentive" when they first came out, so I waited until the "funds" & price matched. We got what we wanted at the price we could afford. The local dealers have 10-15 2002's on their lots but, not many 2001's.Shop around as prices can vary greatly and don't be affraid to make an offer. That's what we did and got the PT we wanted. They had a 2001 demo out there with less equipment and were asking $3000 more than what we paid ! The buzz around these parts is about the 2003 Neon SRT W/ 205 HP ! Anyway, happy cruisin...........some old guy

The rebate in Western New York (and many places)is $1000 until 2/28/02. Even got it on the just ordered Dream Cruiser. This seems much better than the alternative 3.9% financing, especially when the dealer gave me 4.9% after the rebate. I could have saved about $4000 on an inferno red loaded limited demo with 5000 miles, but had to have the limited production Inca Gold.

I got an 02 Cranberry LE fully loaded for $750 over dealer invoice on Dec. 13, 2001. I thought it was a good deal. Dealer in Sacramento had 20-30 PT's in stock, not many of them 01's. As for "fever" cooling off, I don't know about that. Seems to me that Chrysler stepped up production of the PT's when they found out how popular it was. By the way, the dealer's sticker on my Cranberry was OVER $30,000. I refused to pay that, of course! Out the door, with interior and exterior protectant, [b]finance charges[b], and the 7/7 warranty mine ran about 25 grand. Not too bad, but I sure wish I could have gotten one when I wanted it a year ago! Wasn't one in sight then.

I was also confused. I read somewhere that only 40,000 PT's were made, and one of the reasons I bought the car was because of its "uniqueness". Well the city I live in has a population of maybe 200,000 and the number of PT's sold here is RIDICULOUS. There must be over 50 of them. I wish Chrysler would have kept them more rare

Oh well, time for some kits.
