I still want to know where this Idaho PT dealership is. I wouldn't mind a day trip to find her?

Anyone else find some awesome deal on a stripped PT? Today I found a weekend addvertised PT at 14,800. I probably would have puchased her, but my wife did not want to leave the house (new baby) and I want to know how easy I can get the power door locks hooked up later in life.

Later

Jason

Is PT fever related only to sales? I see many, many enthusiasts here on the forums, at cardomain.com, visiting my site, around town telling me how great they think the car is. I think PT fever would exist even if sales dropped to zero. (Well, without sales, it would die out faster, but hey, you know what I mean...)

Hi Jason...that dealership in Idaho no longer has those great deals. They do have 10 in stock, but thier prices aren't so good that you couldn't get the same (or better) deal anywhere else. The main reason I never mentioned their name in the beginning of this topic (which was a loong time ago) was because they were one of those dealerships that really gouged people when the frenzy to have one was at it's peak. Even when 2001 PT's were readily available, their prices were still 2-4,000 dollars over MSRP. Only when they were glutted with 20 of them, because of their ridiculous prices, did they finally lower them down. Now they're concentrating more on the new Jeep Liberty..but do have PT's in stock. It'll be interesting to see how much they charge for the upcoming turbo, and the due-to-be-released convertible. I understand all about "supply and demand"..but to purposely go out of their way to screw people, doesn't deserve a mention of their name in my opinion.

Remember, the only plant running for 2001 sent PTs to both the USA and elswhere. They are now getting an extra 80,000 unit capacity by opening the Austrian plant... Finally, supply has caugt up with demand. Demand hasn't really dropped much.

BTW, I just picked up an '02 Touring for 18,300 out the door. 700 over invoice, and the right equipment I wanted. The price is still right, and used ones here (if you can find them) are nearly as expensive, but harder to get financing on.

I am a new owner of a Cruiser (1,500 miles), and I've had it six weeks. I have been reading about the influx of PT's in the NW, and we even have it here in Iowa. The reason is, that for the most part, these are Canadian vehicles that are being sold on the US market. With the rate of exchange between the US $ and Canadian, a lot of dealers are going to Canada to purchase these vehicles.
What a lot of people don't understand is, unless these vehicles have gone through a registered importer, they are illegal in the US. I know what I'm talking about as I deal with this issue daily.
This is a great site, and I look forward to learning a lot more about my PT and they other folks who have such great taste.

Thank you Cruzin. I really want to wait until the Turbo comes out, but I found a great price on a PT last weekend that would of had me sold if the #'s looked good enough to trade in the Sentra. It was a stripped, bottom of the line model, but I look at that as a blank canvas. Plus that 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty is a nice boost. But it is hard to trade in one of my cars to get further into debt.

Thanks

Jason

Hi Commander..funny you should mention Canadian PT's..that's what mine is..I got it in January of 2001 being sold on consignment from a Canadian dealership. I think that's why the asking price on it was so high to begin with..but after working them (the Spokane Chrysler dealership) for ten days I got em down to $500 over Msrp. They did have to change the speedometer for me to MPH instead of KMH though, and I've got the only one in the city I believe, that the front parking lights are on at all times when driving it..plus I can turn on the fog lights without the headlights..is that a "Canadian thing?"
