Where I live.(eastern Washington state) and also in northern Idaho..I'm seeing new, 2001 PT Cruisers all OVER the place, for sale in dealerships, some that aren't even Chrysler dealerships. There's even a dealership in Couer d'Alene, Idaho that has at least twenty 2001 PT's, all colors and all trim levels for sale, and have had, for several months now. I'm seeing base models sell for, get this, $13,900..and full-boat, every option offered, Limiteds for $17,995! Does this mean the popularity and the frenzy to get one is waning..did Chrysler fudge a bit about availability of the 2001 to get that frenzy going last year..were all of a sudden a ton more pumped out to meet the demand that wasn't really there..hmmmm. When I bought my 2001 Touring Edition last January, I was told that it was one of the last, hard-to-find 2001 models, and that if I wanted to order a 2002, I would have to wait till February, and then wait till Spring before it would be delivered. I opted to pay $500.00 over MSRP and get the 2001, then and there. I'm curious to know if other people from other states are seeing this many new 2001's for sale now, too.

It does seem that the feeding frenzy is over. We haven't seen the kind of prices you're talking about in central Connecticut, but there are a lot more PT's sitting on the dealers lots and they are going for below MSRP.

Hello DOOMID..I'm not sure that the $17,995 price will be on the 2002 models in Idaho (who also has many 2001's). Those prices are on many 2001 PT's that I've seen on other lots and in the newspaper..these are being advertised as "brand new" or "with less than 500 miles.." I'm not sure there are discounts on the 2002 models..but the prices on the 2001's are a ripping deal right now, here in Spokane, Wa. To be honest with you, I don't want to give the name of the dealership over the internet..cause they were one of those that jacked the prices way up in the beginning, and gouged people like you and me who wanted a PT really bad at the time...maybe that's why they still have so many of them now.

Try to buy 2002 Loaded Limited For $17,995 and I think you will find that you Can't do it. That is a dealer playing games. almost $5000 off sticker won't happen. You must remember not all dealers are honest and the goverment does a crappy job of policing them

Yep, I think it is. Harry went for his first oil change today (3000 miles) and there were over 40 PTs on the dealer lot...not many Jeep Libertys. I call this phenom. with cars "The Pacer story." When the AMC Pacer first appeared, the dealers could not keep them in stock. The next year the dealers were over stocked. Seems everyone who really wanted one, purchased it the first year. I think the same is happening with the PT. Might change if DC had offered 0 percent on them.

For anyone waiting because of price, there is a $1000 dealer cash sales incentive on all new 2001 PT's still on the lot. It's not a rebate but a price reduction to the dealer when sold.

In Northern California, demand and prices are still up, although some dealers claim to have 20 or more in stock, you only see a couple on the lots. Hopefully this frenzy will quell itself, Chrysler will take it in the butt, and those of us that paid a little extra will be able to purchase a couple more at bargain prices and add them to our collection. I for was willing to purchase the clone to the PT, and I wouldn't drive anything but.

I continue to see great deals on brand new 2001 models here in the NW, and the prices that I mentioned above are still around. I'm also seeing discounts on 2002 models now, too. Ads in this past weekends newspaper had 2002 PT's with 0% interest, and 7 year 100,00 mile warranties also. What a deal..who would've ever thought a year ago, these prices and availability would be around.
