I am seriously considering to purchase a PT Limited Edition. I am in Canada and have seen on some sites that paint is chipping on PT'S. Is this a widespread problem and what is the warranty on paint? Thank you.

I've had my Cruiser for nearly two years now and haven't suffered from any paint chipping...which has led to me knowing nothing about any warranty on it.

Renichms & CREWZIN
Just new to this site so hope I am doing this right by addressing you both as I wouldn't want to insult anyone. Thank you both for advice re paint. Have seen a site where they were asking if anyone had paint problem to sign their list to be forwarded on to parties concerned. Have had a 96 Concorde LXI and now a 99 LXI both white and am undecided whether to go for a Stone White PT Limited Edition or Silver or Taupe. Again thank you very much will take your advice CREWZIN and when I get this PT will inspect with a magnifying glass. Great site very informative. |

Topper1,
I'm partial to silver. Although, I think taupe looks nice too. Good luck with any Cruiser you get.RN See Mephisto ![]() |

Check out www.clear-guard.com, they offer paint and headlight protection kits for the PT Cruizer. They tested their kits by shooting 1" rock at 120mph, where the kits cover the vehicles paint or headlights there was NO damage. My father-in law has clear guard on his 01 cruizer and luv's it.

Some PUNKS hit my car with a couple of eggs recently.<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle> The paint not only chipped, it cracked (spider-webbed) just like lacquer! What's this stuff made of? I have black paint and am wondering if it's a lower end product vs. the metallics.
So now I've got this and hood chips! Is there anything out there - such as a dye - that can help this situation? Obviously touchup paint won't work. |

Stephen,
I would take it from your conversation that you didn't see the "punks" actually throw something at your car but you found the remains of eggs. I can hardly believe that the hardest of hard boiled eggs would do the kind of damage your talking about. Please don't take that wrong, I believe you found egg residue but they also must have thrown something a lot harder than an egg. I saw what put a small chip in the front of my car because I actually saw the rock come from the rear tire of a truck and heard it hit the front end...even at that speed, it only left a chip near the headlight. With all the high speed highway milage I put on the PT, if the paint was that cheap I'd have a lot more damage. ![]() |

It's amazing what an uncooked egg can do to your paint. Several years ago I had an egg dropped off a bridge hit my van at about 45mph. The paint chipped at point of impact and spider webbed about 6 inches in diameter. Couldn't be buffed out, had to repaint the hood.

Well, I've seen many a egg hit on a paint job over the years and there is something about the egg that will really mess up the area it hits, normaly it leaves a round shape with drips off of one side of it and it just flat eats the paint almost clear down to the metal.
