Automatic car washes

On pg 163 of the 2002 PT Cruiser user manual, it warns to not use an auto car wash if the compact spare is installed. Well, I emailed Chyrsler to ask WHY??? and was told two things.
1st - just use the auto car washed that have soft cloths.
2nd - follow the guideline on page 163.
Too weird!! Talk about mixed messages!!
Anyway, what's the deal with the spare, if anything? The clearance seems fine. There's even a stabilizer bar underneath with LOWER clearance than the spare.
Is anyone out there using an automatic car wash? Any problems? I want my Cruiser to stay cool and clean and don't have time to do hand washes. HELP!?!? Thank!

What they are talking about is when the compact spare is being used IN PLACE OF THE REGULAR WHEEL, like when you have a flat and need the spare. The reason for that is the car sits uneven with the compact spare in use.

Also, the spare tire is really thin. Maybe the automatic car washes that pull your car thru on the rails will have a problem with two different size wheels.

This is too funny! My emails back from Chyrsler INSIST that the compact spare installed BENEATH the car is the problem!

Yea KSG the "Brushless" kind, only water and soap touches the car. Had no problems with it. Since I had it painted I haven't taken it back to a car wash.
