Click in steering column

Been reading this forum for some time and haven't heard anyone mention this problem. So I thought I would just pass it along. I took possession of my 2001 cruiser last year and immediately felt a "click" in the steering column (close to the steering wheel) every time I turned the wheel. It bugged me more than anything, but I let it go for almost a year before I had had enough. I presented it to the dealer, and yes, you guessed it...A defect. Although, easily repaired (under warranty). All they did was add a "shim" just under the steering wheel. Don't know if it was left out originally or was engineered as an after thought, but it fixed the problem.

My 2 cruisers don't have this problem, but a fellow I was speaking with the other day had the same problem you did. His dealer did not, nor was able to fix it, so he traded it in on an Audi. Funny how he missed his PT as he came over to me in a parking lot and struck up a conversation about the car. I love that fact about PTs. They always attract attention and good conversation from nice folks! Glad you got yours fixed.

That's unfortunate he wasn't able to get it fixed. It renewed my faith once the click was gone, but I'm going to love it even more when my new hood strut kit arrives. You're right about attracting attention and good conversation. I work in an office building which houses four other businesses other than the one I work for. Someone is always asking me if I drive the PT woody (I don't, but someone else in the bldg does), so I have to give them a complete run down on my Taupe with fake bullit holes...nothing gaudy...just two fakes on the rear just above the LE emblem. Too cool!
