Hi Everyone,
Don and Pam made a surprise visit to see me today. I was thrilled to see them. When they got here I was in the dialysis unit with Nurse Paula helping her give a dialysis treatment to a terrier named Jake. It was much better in there that being cooped in my small area in the hospital.
When they got here I was having some trouble with the tube that goes through my nose into my stomach. I keep trying to get it out, so someone had to come in and try to fix it for me. I guess it's a good thing that I have the tube, because I'm still not eating and they have to get some food in my somehow.
After I got the tube fixed, Paula let Don and Pam take me outside. It was fantastic. I can't remember how many times I piddled. The grass was wonderful. That's where a girl like me is supposed to piddle. We walked and played for a while. I drank some water and then we walked some more. Then Don and Pam tried to feed me some food. I'm sorry to say that I was just not ready, even for the baby food that was recommended by my friends Wilson and Leann, who are two of Don and Pam's favorite Bassets. After they tried to feed me Don and Pam walked me some, but I was tired, so we all three laid down in the grass for a rest. It was so relaxing with them on the beautiful grass. I got plenty of belly huggs from them as we rested together. After our rest they took me back to the dialysis room. Something was said about them wanting to go to lunch. I couldn't understand how they could leave me to get some food. Maybe soon I'll understand when I'm eating again.
Paula kept promising me that Don and Pam would be right back. I waited and waited and waited by the door. Paula tied my leash to the door knob so that I could peek out into the hall to see if they were coming. Sure enough, there they were just as Paula had promised. I got so excited that I wiggled all over and let out some loud squeaks, like I do when I'm real excited. It was so great to see them again so soon. Paula let them take me back to the grass. I was very excited because this time I knew where we were going. Don commented on how well I pranced out of the building and how strongly I was pulling at the leash. As before, I headed to the first grassy area and did a big piddle. We went out the big front lawn and walked around again. I enjoyed it even more than in the morning. There were a lot of different noises and I started noticing every one of them. I also noticed some other doggies and some strange, bigger animals, that gave off a much different smell. I think Pam called one a sheep. Again they tried to get me to eat. They even brought some of the food that they had for lunch. I'm sorry to say that even the great food served by Milton's Deli, including the meat juice that Don got with his pastrami dip sandwich, didn't tempt me to eat. After some more walking and a good nap on the grass with Don and Pam, they decided that they had to leave. We headed back to the dialysis room. When we got there Don and Pam had a talk with Paula. I think that they were talking about me. Dr. Cowgill, the man who is considered to top expert in small animal kidney dialysis was there too. He called me a miracle dog. I'm sure that the prayers that everyone has been saying for me made that possible. Don and Pam started to leave. That's OK because by then I was ready for a super nap on the comforter that Paula put on the floor in the dialysis room for me. That's where Don and Pam left me, but before they left I heard Paula talking to them about taking me home soon, maybe Friday. I sure hope so.
Your friend,
Bonnie
