It means "Platform Tall".
The PT was initially based on the Neon platform. Chrysler wanted a retro look which was taller than the Neon but couldn't come up with an immediate name so it was designated PT, or Platform Tall.

Let's all be friends. And your all right. Autoweek had an article that explained: The "P" platform that the Neon was built on was also used for the Cruiser (why "P" I don't know}. The Cruiser was designated as "Tall" structure on the "P" platform so hense "PT"..and on the assembly line is was designated "PT", BUT, someone at DC came up with the "Personal Transportation" handle and Chrysler adopted it and used it in there advertizing. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Sorry...The "GT" started a long time ago over in Europe with the higher priced "Touring" cars of that day. The "elite" of the touring cars were tagged with the "GT" which stood for GRAND Touring..and somehow when it made it over to the states, the "GT" was pinned on the fastest of our cars at the time and to this day, the "GT" stands for "speed".
