I just bought my cruiser yesterday, and did a screwup and didn't get the power door locks on the one I ended up with. Can they be installed aftermarket or not? That's what happens when you start out looking at the ones loaded, and reality says you have to buy the one stripped! LOL

I had after market door locks installed at a electronics dealer near me & they work great. Should be no problem.

Welcome from Colorful Colorado. I agree with Cruisin1. They will work just fine. The OEM seem to not want to work 1/3 of the time anyway.

They are actually rather easy to install yourself. The hardest part usually ends up getting the wiring through the door grommet to the inside of the car. The aftermarket actuator are just a little solenoid with a rod attached to it. All you do find your door lock rod inside the door, and then mount the solenoid with 2 screws and attach the solenoid rod to the doors rod, sounds harder then it really is. The wiring is rather simple as well.

Hello everyone. I too bought my cranberry PT without the auto door locks and was wondering about the aftermarket ones. Can someone give me an estimate on how much they run and where I can buy them if my husband decides to install them himself. Not too sure thats a good idea since I have seen tools fly before. Thanks for any info you can give me. Think I will ask for them for my Christmas gift.
Happy Holidays to all. |

Well, they're installed now. They didn't put individual controls on the doors themselves, but installed a keyless entry. 2 remotes with a simple lock, unlock, and panic button. Was rather unhappy that I was going to have to wait till everyone was in, then go for the remote to lock down, so I called them back. Come to find out, the system has an option to automatically lock all doors once the engine starts, but they "forgot" to mention it to me at the time. So... will be making another trip back so they can program it in...at no cost to me other than my time and fuel. Total cost - $384.00 even. (that was supposed to be a special deal thru the dealership for me). Anyhow.... on my way to more mods from here! Thanks again everyone!
