colored bulb illegal?

I wanted to know if anyone has put a colored bulb above their rear license plate? I heard its illegal (then again it is illegal to remove front plates also, and I know many people running around without those (including me) thanks turbomangt

Funny you brought this up! When I read this thread I remembered I put a RED bulb in mine last SEPT!!!I change my TS bulbs and lic plate ones when I am going to a night show !! I know that in California the light must be white and no other light can conflict with the white light.

Depends on the law in your state, and whether it's truly enforced.
Here in NC the plate "must" be illuminated by a white light only. But it's seldom enforced.

What Tom and Basset Hound said is true in almost all states. White light for the rear plate is the law but seldom enforced. However, if you stick a colored bulb in place of the white light and it makes the plate hard to read or seen to be in violation of the enforcement colors (Red & Blue), you will be pulled over. Another one on the books (at least here in Florida) is that ALL (even clear) licence plate covers are illigal. Again, seldom enforced. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I retained the white license plate light, but installed a yellow neon license plate frame for the rear...very cool at night, and no problems from cops (I had several follow me for awhile).
BTW, I don't run a front plate. I think it really spoils the great lines of the Cruiser front end.

far out you guys....here in aussie, the coppers are totally $#@^^ed I would get a $ 250 fine and loose 2 points (we get 12 points on our license and loose em for infringements)for having no plate on the front....I wanna move ovadere....lolol
