When my '03 PT Turbo was delivered in December, it had been driven down from Oregon. On its way down it suffered some rock chips on its right fender and right side of the hood. The dealer, of course, repaired these; quite nicely, I must say.
Today, in washing the PT, I noted more rock chips on the hood. Is this a common problem with PTs, i.e., the airflow is conducive to directing flying objects onto the hood? Thanks Jumpin' Joe Onyx Green GT |

Rock chips are one of the disadvantages of having a front end that is all painted.

I don't know where you're driving with all these UFO's. I recommend moving to someplace where the roads are paved.

If you drive your car, it will be subjected to chips, bottom line. First thing to do is get the factory touch up paint. DON'T USE THE BRUSH THEY SUPPLY! then go to a craft store and get some artist brushes, micro fine assortment. Put some lacquer thinner in a small container, then put some of the touch up paint on a small piece of cardboard. Dab the brush in the thinner, blotch it dry once, then mix the brush in the paint. The thinner will break down the thickness of the factory paint, now dab your chip, (always use the less is best method) most people use too much paint and get a "blob" on the chip which makes it worse. Use two applications if your need to. If you have more questiosn you can post it on my detailing web site/ always happy to help the Cruiser crowd/ Turbomangt

How about your windshields? I have 42,000 miles and the windshield has thousands (no kidding) of tiny specks from end to end that do not wipe off. I believe it to be tiny nicks from road debris that has scratched the entire surface of the windshield. And yes, I do have a half dozen or so nicks on the front end and hood.

We have a one year old silver limited and it has several small chips on the hood and grill. The car is only driven on paved roads. There is just no way to avoid the debris thrown up by other cars and trucks. Just keep the touch up paint handy and use as needed. If your car is an everyday driver like ours chips and dings are unfotunately inevitable. It makes me sick every time I find a new one but short of keeping it in the garage there is little I can do to prevent them.
