Bob< I think those are fake bolts like caps that screw off, then the real lug nuts are behind that. however since I have a GT they are different. I have similar cars like that and that's how they work. Do you have a mechanic that you change your oil with and stuff near by, take it to him and let him check it out. while your there rotate the tires!! turbomangt

Bob, if your wife's car is a base model it probably has the steel wheels with hubcaps, the owner's manual should say how to remove them. If it's a Touring or Limited, then it has either painted cast aluminum or chrome wheels with the heads of the lug nuts visible. Hope this helps.

Bob, there have been a lot of complaints about taking off the hubcaps on Base Model wheels. Evidently they don't come off easily. Several have reported that they broke the plastic hubcap in the process. Hopefully your removal will be easier. I'm late for work this morning. I'll research it for you this evening (no Internet at work) and get back to you.

Here's the quote I was looking for:

Quote:
quote:I have just went through H@## and so did the roadside service guy and a very nice person at Firestone tire.. I can change a tire, dad taught me this before I could walk.. I though "No Big Deal" when I came out of work today and the right rear tire was flat.. Bust out the jack, spare, and start cranking on the lug caps... All but two come off the others just spin. Well two of them are cross threaded.. It took the roadside service guy and a Firestone guy to destroy them to get them off along with the hubcap. Then the lugs are so tight we can't turn them... Not even standing on them worked, turn to the impact wrench that worked.. But all in all I am wet(did I mention that it was raining too), tired and missing one hubcap.. I will ditch the others tomorrow.. I will not take that chance again...
Thanks for letting me rant...
Here's a helpful reply:

Quote:
quote:Bosch, the IMPORTANT thing to remember with those crappy hubcaps is that you cannot loosen each of the plastic lugs all the way and then go on to the next one. You MUST only loosen each one a little bit, go to the next and do the same. Keep doing this till all of them are loosened all the way.

BTW---Bob, on the forums there is no such thing as a dumb question about PT Cruisers. There are many of us out here that enjoy helping each other out.

[Enjoy the cruise]
