I'm about 40 and every car I've ever owned was stick. But I bought the PTGT with automatic. Partly because I have a two-year old and it's a pain to drive the stick and have hands to pick up toys, bottle, etc.
On the one hand, I like the freedom the auto gives me. On the other hand, I feel like going from stick to auto is one step closer to death (kind of like when you buy your first buick or crown victoria) If you haven't cruised Maryland, you haven't cruised. (unless you cruised somewhere else) |

Hey Lady, go to kbb.com for the invoice price. Will give you dealer invoice by feature. Is pretty accurate.

Hey Jeff V, "closer to death" is a good way to put it. But at 40?! What happen ol' boy? Just kidding. I'm right behind you. But for me, driving is an adventure as well as an expression. I turn when I want to turn, I punch it when I want to punch it, and I shift when and only when I say so. Yes sir, I'm in charge of this PT boatster.
Exracylady, if you know the freedom of a clutch, why would you ever go back? Convenience? Say it ain't so...ARRRHHHHHHH... |

Sticks are a pain in traffic and hills and freeway ramps that backup on steep inclines!!

I wouldn't give up my Turbo Gt 5-speed for all the automatics in China. I have been waiting for this car for over two and half years. I knew exactly what I wanted. I was on four waiting lists, as soon as the first dealer called with the announcement that Chysler was taking taking orders. Mine went in the same day. I paid 2 grand under sticker plus taxes/freight. I have four other cars which are auto/ this is my toy, and guess what? my teenagers can't drive stick..tooooooo bad. turbomangt

DC began making GT 5-speeds last November. The type of trans is a personal choice usually based on one's driving needs/requirements. If you are going to use the car mainly for commuting to work, especially in heavy traffic, or, if you live in a area with lots of hills, then the auto-stick would seem to be the better choice. However, this was my first "turbo car" and I wanted one with maximum performance. Also, the "fun factor" was a primary consideration, and for me, driving a 5-speed is more fun than driving an auto. Besides, my wife's car has an auto trans should I need to drive one. IMHO, driving the GT 5-speed while closely watching those RPMs, and, with proper shifting, will maximize the car's road performance.

One other point on a stick I found to be a disadvantage
is staying under the radar. If you live or travel in an area that has low posted speed limits [35-25 mph] It is not very hard to find yourself doing 45 mph befor you even get into 4th. If your locals are quick on the draw it can be a problem, to say nothing of taking the fun out of it all. |
