This is the first new car that I have had in some time. I usually buy used but I fell in love with a little red turbo. Anyhow, I want to run syhthetic oil because of good results I have had in the past. If I take the car in for service and say "don't do the oil, I have already changed it", what will the response be?

Cal Cruiser,
Hundreds of us are changing our own oil/filter. Make sure you keep good records, change the oil when the owners manual tells you to (or even sooner if you want to) and 'keep the receipts for the oil and filter'. IF, there's ever a failure of an engine part that uses the oil as a lubricant, the dealer would have to prove that you haven't kept up the maintenance agreement where the oil/filter is concerned. As long as you keep the things listed above, your warranty will stay in force. The rest of the service items can also be done at any service shop a lot cheaper than the dealer. Again...keep all the records. ![]() Trade your GAMES & MOVIE DVD's at: www.gametradingpost.net Edited by - crewzin on 02/21/2003 14:29:23 |

Most places, if you tell them not to change the oil, will shrug and take it in stride. The guys at my dealership are used to me doing all sorts of stuff...although I can't yet change oil or do any other maintenance, really...got no tools (at all, amost literally).

I highly recommend you not switch over to the synthetic for a minimum of 3000 miles, 5000 better. Your engine needs the dino juice to allow proper seating of rings and gaskets. My GT has 2000 miles on it. I'll switch to synthetic at 5000 miles.
