Loud wind sound

I recently bought a 2001 PT Cruiser that had 25,000 miles and I love the car....BUT...While driving there is a waffling sound that is driving me nuts. The dealer says it is caused by the design and is from the wind...but I'm not so sure. Has anyone else experienced this? Any info would be greatly appreciated since the noise is making me hate the car!

Does this sound only occur when a window is open? If so, it is typically of PT's. You can relieve the problem by opening the opposite window (open right rear if left front is open, etc.).

If the sound occurs when all the windows are fully closed, it is NOT a typical PT issue.

Does it sound like a helicopter is about to land on you? If so, it is as described above. The owners manual actually has a section devoted to it. Just open another window, or close the ones that are open, until the pressure and sound dissipate.

Thanks, MichaelDay and Jeff V for your quick response to my question. I will try the window trick tomorrow for sure! I feel better that it is not the engine or something..the PT goes in for his 30,000 mile check-up ($329 !!!!) this Wednesday and I didn't want to mention it to the dealer again!<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>
