Yes, indeedy: my beloved "Gertrude" was a '63 with a '61 trunk lid...When the new bugs came out, I went "blech"...but when the PT appeared it was love at first sight all over again.

And I'm pretty dang sure that we'll end up with more than one PT Cruiser...eventually....heehee....the Aquamarine has to happen, since we have been visualizing ourselves in one...we went to the dealers and took pictures of us each standing by one & sitting in one when they were new on the lot...we have an Aquamarine die-cast toy PT (2, actually) that we found at Sam's for ten bucks...I mean, it's just gotta happen....

Hey beebs, Welcome to the world of PT Cruisers. My wife and I each have one and we really enjoy them. If, like me, you're from the old VW culture (mine was a '61) you'll absolutely love having a PT Cruiser. We find that both of ours have plenty of power in the city and on the open highway. Neither of us have felt that we lacked for power. I hope that you find what you are looking for. Good luck.

The PT's acceleration is at least average for it's class of cars. Since it resembles a hot rod, people expect it to run like one. I've found no problem on freeways and ours (Dallas) are as bad as yours. Number ONE: If you don't want holes in the front bumper, DON'T LET the dealer mount the front tag holder. Decide what touring options you want and consider adding them to a base model to get your grey bumpers. You may want to "aftermarket" most of them anyway. Check this car
When we test drove the '01's when they first came out, we found it was fine as far as getting in/out of traffic...even on I35....we're past the age where speed in a car is a thrill....sanity/safety means a lot more at this point!

And that's a sweet "old" PT: I really like the three stripes on the rear fenders as well...have not seen the rear stripes for sale on any of the sites, only the fronts. And I think the chrome on your PT looks sharp! Are those the tail-light "dressups" that have to be glued on? Was it difficult to do? Those for front and back are on the list of goodies we want.

If aquamarine becomes too difficult to find, check out black, taupe, or steel blue as colors to produce an oldie. Maroon is good also but there are a lot of maroon ones out there. A dark color makes the chrome stand out better....but once you Zaino it the whole thing's shiney!
The thing we'd get in place of the Aquamarine would definitely be the Steel Blue...it's sooooo close, and it's a pleasant-to-look-at color. Of course, there's always gonna be that "kid" in me that wants to get a red one....

There are numerous ways to get your PT to look like the 40's. Here's one that was at a car show I attended last weekend:
Now that's snazzy! A different color for the fenders, and those side stripes really works. One of the most popular mods to make a late 60's bug look like an old car was a fiberglass rear window panel that made the rear window into a small oval, like cars used to have in the 40's/50's....haven't seen that available for the PT yet, but I figure that would definitely be a mod someone would come up with to help the "vintage look" along.

If you happen to stumble across someone's granny's Aquamarine up there in Dallas, give us a holler down here...heehee!

beebs, the tailights were glued on but they were a pain to fit correctly, not perfectly snug against the surface. After a year some of the glue was loose so I reglued them. They also cost more than similiar styles but they were the ones my wife wanted.

For a small rear window, check out "Samurai Tommy of Japan" under the archieves for PT OF THE WEEK.

For aquamarine hunting, contact PT club web sites in, say, Texas and Lousiana for adding a want ad and put one in CLASSIFIEDS here too.

Ah, thanks for that info....I really like the way they look, but when I read the blurb on the sales site about how they glued on instead of using the 3M tape (they made it sound like a "feature" , I kinda thought again about those particular ones. If I just can't find anything else that I like, I'll still get those. And I just discovered running boards as well....the E & G's look really nice.

Now that's sharp...I'd seen the conti kit, but not sure I want the tire part of the thing...just a smaller oval window...and I hadn't really seen those chrome bumpers look as good as they do in this guy's pics...great....more chrome to buy....and more Cruiser pics to look at. btw: where did you get that photo of that great "vintage" PT with the whitewalls, baby moons and the 40's stripes on front and back fenders? I mean, add a fender skirt, a front "visor", some chrome mirrors...hey...we're nearly "THERE!"

That's on the "to-do" list for this afternoon...just found some of the sites late last night....being on a dialup, it takes a while to do all this PT research! We will probably call this fellow in MA on Tues. or Wed. after we get a couple more quotes on how much the shipping costs would be. Hopefully that can be a bargaining chip, if it gets that far. Frankly, the thought of buying a car I've never seen or touched kinda gives me the willies....but this is the internet age, after all...

beebs-

here you go:

There are actually two different models available.
I could not get the link to the second picture to work.

I found them at http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ptcruiser/

Look under the section for "Rear Hatch Panels"

Enjoy,
Chris

Now THAT's exactly what i was talkin' about....I like it! Something else to add to the list, although, it looks like it'd pretty much be "LOOK OUT BEHIND!"...talk about blind spots!

heehee....yeah, it kinda does look "Hearse-y" in silver...wonder what it'd look like in Aquamarine.......BECAUSE....

WE ARE GOIN' FOR THAT AQUAMARINE! We call the guy in MA to finalize the deal tonight....We should have our new baby by the 15th or 16th...gotta schedule the transport company....WooooooHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This car is OURS....it's pretty much like he's just been caretaking it and keeping it new for us....it's exactly like the one we took pics of ourselves standing by in the dealer lot two years ago!!!!!!!!
