They do come with an alarm, but some argue that the factory alarm is not enough to protect your car, especially if you've put a lot of aftermarket $$$ into it....

Also, I don't know about Saki's setup, but I know with mine if I have the Turbo Timer set to run after I take my keys out, the alarm will not arm. The doors will lock, but the alarm will not activate until the car stops running...

The factory alarm is not enough. it really only honks the horn and flashes the lights for about 30 seconds. When you live in larger cities you here a dozen of these alarms a day and no one listens.

I have compustar 2 way alarm in mine. But I still don't put a lot of faith in them. If someone wants whats in your car bad enough they will take it alarm or no alarm.

It hurts when you put so much time and effort into your ride and someone disrespects it and you but when you think about it there really is nothing that you can do except sit in your car all day...and even then someone may still HIT you..

Oh well try to keep your head up Saki, at least you still have the car and no one was hurt.

Oh Saki!

I'm so very sorry to hear your news, this is very bad. I don't understand how people can do something so hurtful, just because they want something they can't get.

Well, no matter what, with the insurance and some time, you will have your PT back better than before, I can tell you.

Please keep faith and know many good PT friends are with you, and let us all know when you have your PT restored again!

Santacruzer

The stock alarms are NOT alarms, they are remote entry systems. PLUS they run off the battery. Any half intelligent car thief knows that 95% of alarms are run off the battery, hence by disconnecting the power cable the car is a sitting duck. They simply smash the window, lean in, pop the hood, cut the ground on the battery...
I can definitely sympatize with you Saki, this happened to my PT a little while ago. It was a show car, appraised at $50,000, and it was STRIPPED!! Everything from custom 2 tone seats, to billet grille, to intake was either taken or destroyed. The worst part was the mechanical oil press. gauge on my piller; that when ripped out caused oil to shoot all over the interior! All this after DRILLING through the lock and around it on the drivers door.
My suggestion to you, is to give your insurance receipts for ALL the aftermarket and it should be covered under theft. When you get her back is to invest in a GOOD alarm. The Alpine SEC-150R is awesome, w/ proximity and vibration. Have a second self powered siren installed as well. To get rid of one of these they have to rip it out of the car and throw it VERY far away, the best part being it'll still be going off after it's out of the car!!

I got my GT broken into about a month ago at the mall. I park out in the open, away from most cars so people wont ding my damn doors. When I got out of work, I ran to my car because it was raining, sat down, put the key in the ignition then noticed both of my passenget windows were shattered...nothing was taken though. I was lucky i had $0 deductible comprehensive insurance. I still have glass in between my seats that appears every once and a while, and my windows squeek now. Not to mention the 40 min wait for the police to come, then having to drive my car home in the rain with out a couple of windows.

Ill be buying a better alarm asap. The motion one sounds badass. Will probably pick it up. My situation has led to an outpouring of help from the local car community. People are trying to give me money, speakers and CD players...Quite amazing. One also told me that when I get my new stuff to call him and he will buy it for me at cost...so I think Ill be able to handle that.

Saki,

Sorry to hear about your car. It sucks!

A good motion sensor, preferably a dual zone, will help out a lot. The first zone can be set up to activate just as you approach outside of the side mirrors. This will, depending upon the alarm, set off chirps to let the would-be thief know a REAL alarm is protecting your vehicle. The second zone could be set up to activate just inside the glass areas. If an object breaks through the glass area, the alarm goes off: no ifs, ands, or buts. A really good idea to implement is a back-up battery. Most alarm companies sell a back-up battery module that takes over IF the car battery is disconnected or cut. These back-up batteries can provide up to 15-30 minutes of sounding an alarm or 24-48 hrs of alarm monitoring, depending upon accessories (motion sensors, pinswitches, mercury switches, etc.).

Buy a good namebrand alarm. Good alarm companies provide total US coverage for support if a problem arises. For example, if you drive to a show and an alarm problem arises (it CAN happen), the alarm company can set you up with a local dealer to remedy the problem.

Off my soapbox,

Scott
