All auto PTs, except the 2003 turbo, have the 41TE - 4-speed Transverse Electronic tranny that's been used in the Caravan for many years.

i bought auto....
and yes i'm a girl, so its expected
but i've never had a manual vehicle to drive for a period of time to see if i could handle it.

i don't like automatic. is there anything you can do for the lag?
its not responsive enough....
depending on speed, it doesn't downshift and then you have zero go when you accelerate again unless you slam the gas...and then it just sounds horrible.

so am i stuck with this, or what if any options do i have.

I'm afraid your looking for the type of acceleration that only comes with either a turbo or supercharger. The non-turbo PT is a great all-around cruising vehicle but it is overweight and underpowered for the type of driving you want to do. There's a couple of options/improvements that you can do to help a little. A lot depends on how much you want to spend. Upgrading the ignition (plugs & wires), free flowing exhaust, and a cool air intake will help some with your "lag" and MX-5 has come up with a "cut-wire" method of improving the shift between 1st and 2nd gear in the automatic that will help while accelerating.

the reason i am asking this question is that i am looking to buy a '91 crusier and i don't want to have to rebuild another trany so i was just wondering if it was the 3.1L transmission that they also used in the caravan or if it is another one in the cruiser.
