I bought my PT used and have noticed a great deal of wind noise around the back of the driver's door. Is that normal, or should I nag my dealer about it?

Crzn8r,
If by "wind noise" you mean the buffeting sound of your music from the radio/stereo when the drivers window or sunroof is open....that's normal for the PT. If you crack open a rear window a few inches, the buffeting goes away.

No...by WIND NOISE, I am talking about when all the windows are rolled up, music is off and I still can hear the noise by my left ear as if is WAS a window partially open.

That's not normal. Either a door is not closing properly or some weather stripping is messed up.

I just noticed wind noise near my left ear also. I have only 1k miles. I guess a trip to the dealer is in order.[V]

By wind noise do you mean that you can feel a blowing against your ear? I've heard from several PT owners, as well as a warning from the dealer that at high speeds, around 60 or so, with the windows down, the air moving around the vehicle pulsates into the windows. It sounds like a helicopter is trying to land on your roof. I've scared a few uninformed back seat passengers this way. But the noise is alot better with the windows up. I would check the weather stripping around the door. I had a minor "problem" with the weatherstripping on the rear hatch. Not really a problem, it was fixable by hand.

crzn8r,
I have the EXACT same phenomena. I have a 2001 Ltd. Inferno Red. My PT was involved in an accident about a year ago in the driver's door. I've taken it back to the body shop that did the repair work. They claim that it is "normal wind noise from around the mirror...". BS! I don't believe it. It certainly wasn't that bad *before* the accident. I am a "nut" when it comes to noises and squeaks. I certainly would have remembered that problem. Since it is still under manufacturer's warranty, I am taking it to the dealership on Thursday and let them check it out. I've explained the situation to the service manager that supervised the mechanical repairs related to the accident. I'll let them fight it out among themselves. The dealership and body shop are owned by the same parent company. I would go to the dealership and make your case known. If they say, "they all do that...." make them prove it. Ask them to provide the same year PT as yours and go for a ride. |
