Default Handy? new idea

I was looking at those spoke covers for the stering wheel at various sites. all seem to be around $55. I got an idea that is crazy enough it might work. What about going to the hardware store and getting a piece of PCV pipe the same diameter of the spokes. Cut the back out, have it paint whatever color you want, and presto, you have custom covers for less than 5 bucks? what do you think? Gary [^]

I'm not sure PCV pipe would be "very nice on the hands" especially driving in the mountains with all those curves and turns. A nice leather cover is sold at the ptcruiserclubstore.com for $34.95 to $38.95 ...http://www.ptcruiserclubstore.com/cg...wheelskins.htm

"Wheelskins are the finest, most luxurious Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Covers available. They are individually hand-crafted in California of choice domestic cowhide, especially tanned for Wheelskins. Our exclusive patented lacing hole reinforcement system ensures a tight custom fit on any steering wheel."

To chime in here I have installed the wheelskins on the cruiser, they look and feel excellent. Real leather, so it will take some minor maintenance though. Cleaning-conditioning every so often. The polished spokes are nice, but they do fingerprint pretty easily.

Gary, I also have the wheel skin cover, but what Alan has really adds a nice touch/ since i have some painted parts inside, like my console, I oculd have this mod painted to match. I just might try it. Gary p.s. if this works, I might put a patent on it.

PVC pipe won't work because the spokes aren't round and they're tapered. They're not even the same left to right. If you want to match something, buy the polished ones and paint them.
