Last night I watched an episode of the TV show COPS, where they were doing undercover drug busts, and guess what the narcotics officers rolled up in, Yep, A Steel Blue Base PT Cruiser. |

There are two Police departments and at least one Fire Dept. around here that use the PT as a sort of "Mascot" type car. They call them the Pt Cruiser Cruiser, used for community events and the saftey officer goes to the schools with it.
Anyone else have local police in the PT?

Local station in Green, Ohio has a PT cruiser painted like a cop car (white door, black everywhere else). It's got one single red light on top..kinda keystone cops looking.

The first day I had my Cruiser, I was showing it off by giving all the nieghbors a ride, and when we got home the people in the backseat couldn't open the back doors, or open the back windows, or anything...just like in a police car. Since it was brand new, I didn't know how either. We finally opened it from the outside, but it was just like a police car.

Can't safety features be a pain when the salesman leaves them unexplained?? Most 4 door cars now have "child-proof" rear door locks. I have accidently moved the switch to the lock position while cleaning the rear edge of the door. Later, I had a rear seat passenger saying that the door lock was broken and she couldn't get out. Opening the door from the outside and moving the switch solved the problem easily. The power window lock "safety" feature is another one that can leave you frustrated until you find the lock switch on the center dash.
With all that, both are still good ideas for those transporting young children. My parents always bought 2 door cars until my brother and I were older just as a safety precaution against us accidently opening the door by mistake while the vehicle was moving. The central location of the power window switches is another good idea from a safety standpoint. It makes it very difficult for a child to accidently raise the power window with their head (or even an arm) sticking out the window. As they say on Hill Street Blues "Let's be careful out there."
