When cleaning automotive leather you must realize that it is not drum-dyed leather or naked leather, that is, the dye does not go thru the hide. The leather used in automobiles is analine leather that is painted to achieve the same color as the interior. The color is called a dye, but it is applied like paint. Since this paint/dye is applied on top of the leather it can wear off (have you seen worn seats that the color has been faded off, or scuffed away?) Never use a solvent cleaner and dont scrub the material with anything to aggressive. Always use a non-caustic (no sodium hydroxide) cleaner.
Even though the leather is painted/dyed, it is still porous, and will accept oils back into the analine leather. It important to condition at least 3 times a year to ensure the leather doesnt dry out. Without proper care, the leather will begin to split and crack. Jforce. stay away from cleaner/conditioner products that are all in one. Get two products, one to clean one to condition. Lexol is a decent brand. I sell one on my web site that I have found to superior to most I've tried. The cleaner I don't post, but I sell to people that ask. Don't use the "T" product, or other cheap stuff, the good stuff is only pennies more. if you need more help. contact me at U know where> www.perfectautofinish.com

Is the Connoly(sp?) Hide Food a good product? I bought some of that for mine but it is kind of a PITA to use because it gets in all the little breathing holes in the seats.

Cal, I have not personally used it, but I have heard the same pain you have shared. YOu want a conditioner to soak into the leather without leaving behind product. The one I use (on my web site) I have found to work the best. Gary

How do I care for leather interior???????????????[:I]
I looked untill I found cloth interior, leather IS nice, but the 90+ day I looked, it was way to hot to sit on, I don't have a garage, and the car sits in the sun all day at work, just building heat, plus I am too lazy to take care of it.Just my pref. Tom |
