When I checked my oil this morning, cold engine, level ground, it was a quart low, at the add line. Drove ten miles to a dealership and they checked the oil, it was 1/4 inch from the full line. This 1,000 miles after oil change.
Is this common? |

I've been hearing more and more stories about this exact subject.....

Just my two cents worth, I have 7300 miles on mine and it has never gone below 1/2 quart even just before it's due for a change.

Bill,
I would have the dealer check it right away! Don't know about Chrysler, but I also own a Saturn. Before the warranty expired on it, I noticed it was losing oil. They performed what they call an "oil consumption check". They do an oil change and make sure it is at the full line. They tie a tag under the hood to document the date/time and oil levels at each check. Every 1,000 miles they want you to come in so they can check it and add if necessary. At then end of 3,000 miles, if more than what is considered "normal" by the factory was used up (in the case of the Saturn, 1/2 quart), they will rebuild the engine. And that's exactly what they did! Mine used almost a quart in the 3,000 mile period. They rebuilt the engine (rings, etc.) at their expense and provided me a loaner for a week. I would imagine that DC has a similar plan to support their engines. Force the issue if they don't. You can tell them my story (they don't like being upstaged by GM) [8D] BTW... My 2001 Ltd does not use or lose a drop. I have 21K miles on it now. |
