TexJon,
I too have 2001 Ltd. and had the same problem. I was back and forth between the Chrysler dealership and the Goodyear store about the problem several times. The Chrysler dealership did everything they could and came to the conclusion it was the tires. They have a much more sophisticated balance machine than Goodyear does (go figure) and found that the balance job that Goodyear did was not as good as could be. They also pointed out that Goodyear had used wheel weights that were not proper for the PT chrome wheels - they did fit the contour correctly and could shift.
But, all the above still did not solve the problem completely. So, after reading testimonies from other PT owners on other discussion groups, I finally contacted Goodyear customer service in Akron, Ohio to complain about the Goodyear Eagles original equipment. I told them I wanted either a higher grade Goodyear or a different brand altogether. I was tired of playing yo-yo between Chrysler and Goodyear. Chrysler says it's Goodyear's fault because they manufactured the tire -- Goodyear says it's Chrysler's fault because Chrysler provided the specs for the tire.
After hearing the testimonies about other PT owners' problems, Goodyear approved replacing all four *** free of charge *** with Goodyear Eagle HPs (high performance). There was an immediate difference and it did solve the steering wheel wobble issue.
My original Goodyear Eagles had less than 10K so they did not charge me anything. If yours have more, they may want to pro-rate the exchange, but I think it is still worth the effort.
