Marc, Jody, Alan, et.al.

Since Alan asked about the safety... When I first purchased my 2001 Ltd, I was a little concerned because the safety rating that Consumer Reports posted was not very encouraging.

In September of 2002, just after dark, I was pulling out from a lighted intersection after I had a green light. A guy in a Ford Explorer did not see the red light he had, ran it, and hit me perpindicularly in the driver's door (T-bone, some people call it). He was going at least 35 mph. The side airbag deployed and that's probably what saved me from very serious injury. Oh, I was hurt, but nothing permanent. A lot of it was bruising from the airbag. I have a history of back trouble and this trauma certainly didn't help things, but after about 2 months I was feeling fine.

The PT sustained over $10K of damage which has been repaired and is looking and driving fine now.

The airbag certainly did its job. Without it and probably other things in the design, I may not have come away from that accident.

Studymungy and Jody - send Pictures to Lisa (or was it Wendy) at PTEnthusiasts.Org. She keeps pics of all PTs in accidents. Nearly all comments are about how well the PT stood up. I remember one that hit a moose, and did well.

Hope I never find out.

Glad you're both fine, and congrats on the new PT![^]
