When I was 16 I ran into some woman. Small hit, nothing big. But she sued my dad for $500k.

My insurance for the next few years was $6k a year
If my insurance had gone up to $6k a year when I was 16 I would have had to find an alternative means of transpotation (walking or riding a bicycle).

I had this happen to me with another insurance co. so I shoped around & got a better deal. I have all mods (past, present, future) & car insurard for 100k. and it only cost me an extra $100.00 a year. [8)]

I had assigned value on my teenage hot rod, and yes, eventually wrecked it.

When I went to collect from the insurance agent, he offered me a quick settlement for less than blue book. I told him we could take a few years to settle if he wanted, but that I wanted the full amount of the assigned value. He wanted to settle, and invited me in to the office (to sign a release of claim). Because I was willing to wait them out, and because I could proove in writing that the car was really worth it, I eventually got almost all of the assigned value. But be careful what you agree to!

BTW:
I recently got an amendment from my insurance company saying that my PT Cruiser was not insured against nucular missle attack or resulting fallout.

...O.K.

My insurance actually went down about $30 when I bought my PT. Also, I checked the vehicle laws in MD. The ONLY time you can has NOS in your car is when driving to and from a car event from your home.[8]

When I wrecked my modified mustang about 2 years ago, I didn't get what I though it was worth...but pretty close...but I also got them to through in the wreck as part of the deal. I took it home and stripped the parts then sold the wreck on Ebay for another $2000. I am still selling off the parts. I feel I made out okay in the long run but I would still rather have my mustang in my garage.
