Default 20k miles per year = extra precaution??

I'm probably going to be putting around 20K miles per year on my car. Most of it will be city drivin at ~30-50 mph.
Beyond the standard 3K miles check'n change mantainence what else can I do to make sure my car will go 100K miles with the least amount of problems?
I plan on putting synth in at my 1st oil change. Good idea? Should I wait till the 6k change to do it?
Thanks.

Just go by the scheduled maint in the owners manual. Plus do visual checks every now and again. My current daily driver is a '95 Dodge Avenger i4/5sp with 234K on it. I traded in a '87 Honda CRX w/224k on it for the Dodge. I ran the urine outa both of them [8)] but kept up the scheduled maint. Good Luck![?]

Ditto OurPTGT.... except for the part about running the urine out of a Honda and a Dodge.

If it's an auto, I'd say to flush the fluid at 50,000 mi. Chrysler slushboxes don't go the distance - need all the help they can get. Also expect to replace ignition wires - do it at first sign of a miss. I have nearly 68,000 miles on my PT now, a little over 2 years. Go synthetic right away & use good filters. (I get K&N for $8@ when bought by the dozen).
