Default ATF Leak

Forgive me if this is old news, but I have looked around and can't find a thread out there, maybe there is one...

I just got a 2002 Limited with 53K miles at the end of December. I didn't notice any leaks at all until about 2 weeks ago. Now I have a slight ATF leak coming from the drivers side. Although I see evidence of some slight scraping on the underside of the transmission, the fluid seems to be dripping down from somewhere.

Has anyone had a problem where the car bottomed out (which I could have done on an uneven gravel road with lots of ice at the time) or is there a kown problem I can look for? Haven't had a whole lot of time to investigate yet, but will have a closer look this weekend...

thanks

welcome to the forum

i work at a dealer have seen lost of scratches on pans you did not hurt it. it would take ALOT to make it leak that way. it is most likely that it is from the cooler lines have seen lost of thoes leak, more so when it's cold, then it runs down.

I know some of the GTs, mine included, have had a problem with the cooling line on the Driver's Side pulling away from the cooler that's built into the radiator.I also had a cooling line leak at the clamp where it goes into the tope of the tranny, also on the driver's side. I would say it's most likely a leaking line, probably at a clamp. The pinch-clamps they use suck.If it is this, change it out with a traditional screw-down type.If it's under warranty, bring it to the dealer.

Welcome to the Forum. I'd recommend you also consider having the fluid & filter changed. Be sure it's ATF+4 of ATF+5. The Chrysler slushbox isn't the best out there, and changing the fluid helps it last longer.
As for the leak - I agree - check the lines and use Stainless screw clamps.

I had several PT trannys decide to leak at the solenoid pack seal. This is above the pan, on the front (towards the bumper) of the tranny.
The pack must be replaced to stop the leak. There is no replaceable seal. It must be calibrated and a quick-learn drive cycle completed after replacement.

I almost forgot about that. When I had my leak, they diagnosed it as this. When I picked it up, they had replaced this, along with the clamps on the tranny side of the cooler lines.

Thanks again...

I'd planned on having the ATF flushed and replaced (properly) and filter changed at the scheduled interval which is around 60k I think...have to double check that. But if I need this seal replaced now, will have it done then.

Can a amateur/weekend mechanic like me figure out easily if it is this solenoid pack seal, or better left to a pro to diagnose? (Certainly won't replace something like that myself)

I am thinking this car is still under 7/70 powertrain warranty. Still looking into this. If not, does it matter if I take it to a deal or not? thanks for all the info.
