Default mirror trim bezel/Shifter knob

2 questions 1st: Has anyone removed the interior trim to get at the mirrors? My manual says lift straight off or straight up, which is it. Are there no plastic tabs? What holds it on? 2ndly to remove the shifter knob on a 2003 basic automatic trans, loosen set screw and unscrew knob or just pull off and is there a spring under the button ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Gonzo,

Not sure about the mirrors..had mine painted but let the body shop do all the work. I just replaced my shifter on an 01 automatic. After you loosen or take out the set screw the whole shifter justs lifts right off, leaving a center bar to be covered by the new accessory.

Thanks Crewzin, was pretty easy I was afraid of loosing a spring when I took it off. For anybody else it took a 3mm allen wrench to remove on a 2003 PT.

Mirror trim on the inside just pulls off . There are 2 ( or 3 ...not sure anymore ) spring clips that hold the trim pc on. Just pry out the btm or top and pull straight out. Takes a little yank to get the tabs to pull out but they just snap back in when you are ready to reassemble.

Mirror bezel is best remove with flat head start at the top. Yes 3 clips. IF you want to remove the whole mirror then the door trim piece will have to come over and the power wires unhooked.
