Default Jewelry scratches stickshift

While my car was at the dealer on an unrelated repair, someone added to the worksheet: "Customer states Engine light on.", but I never told them that.

They used that as an excuse to drive the car for 10 miles.

When I picked it up, there were scratches on the stickshift from what I think was a ring on the right hand of the driver, and a stain in the seat. Also, the floor had been vacuumed.

I wasn't aware of the 10 mile drive yet, so I didn't complain right away, but when I did see it on the work order, I complained to the owner of the dealership and was given free car wash, free oil change, and a "feel good" conversation.

It felt like I had been a victim of a crime, only I didn't know what to do about it.

Now I'm uncomfortable about taking my car back to the dealer that I bought it from for service.

If a dealer thinks your engine light is on, can they drive it 10 miles like that???

I feel it's legitimate that they'd drive the car 10 miles in an effort to reproduce an engine light - IF you'd reported that. I find it unacceptable that they'd soil your seat and had you confused with someone else. Sometime good mechanics are slobs - definitely not all - and most dealerships (I thought) had taken to covering the seat and floor with paper to prevent your experience. I suspect they vacuumed the floor because they messed it up. I would have a talk with service manager and give them one more try at free oil change.

I believe the paperwork that you sign when you leave your car for repair work gives them the right to drive your car.

Check your copy of the work order you signed. People usually sign most anything you put in front of them. It is just human nature, not a criticism. [^]

If the dealer is to make "this wrong, RIGHT" then he should replace the stickshift knob than was damaged. Suggest you talk to the owner again and see what he will do. Good luck.

Well from personal perspective, I would find out the mechanic that drove your PT. I wait to see what kind of car he drives. I would then learn where he lives by trying to follow him not too close. Then when he is by himself you put him on disability or workmans comp for a while. Just to make sure nothing like this happens again, you need to show them whos boss.

Ask to see everyone involved with the service and see there hands if one has a ring on the right hand thats the calperate. Then you will know if in deed it is who you think if someone higher which took advantage.

Thanks everybody for your replies! I really appreciate them.

Be warned. The plastic ball or knob on the autostick is soft plastic, and can easily scar. You would notice any scar right away in the feel of your hand.

Is it possible to replace just the knob? ...or do you have to replace the entire stickshift?

Anyone know of a better one than the origional?

Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to replace the knob without replacing the entire unit. I recommend you replace it with a MGW Auto Shift Knob. Think you will be very happy with this great modification--it not only looks good but is very comforable.

MGW Ltd. makes high-quality products and has excellent customer service. Check out their products for PT Cruisers at: http://www.mgwltd.com/pt_cruiser.html

Good luck.
