Default tie rod ends

Has anyone out there been told that their tie rod ends have to be replaced instead of lubricated with a zurg fitting?

From the Service Manual:

Worn Or Loose Tie Rod Or Ball Joint

Tighten Or Replace Tie Rod End Or Ball Joint

There aren't any Zerk fittings on there, are there? The infamous "lubricated for life", only the life is too short!

If there were they would have removed them. Here's what the service manual has to say about the ball joints.

STANDARD PROCEDURE - LUBRICATION
There are no serviceable lubrication points on the
front suspension. The front lower ball joints have
grease fittings which have had the head snapped off
by the manufacturer after they have been filled.
This
has been done to eliminate the possibility of damaging
the non-vented seals. Grease will not leak from
the broken grease fittings. The ball joints are sealed
for life and require no maintenance.
CAUTION: No attempt should be made to replace
the ball joint grease fitting with a new fitting, then
filling the ball joint with grease. Damage to the
grease seal can result.

I bet you they do this because 90% of the boneheads at places like Jiffy Loose always put *way* too much grease in them and bust the seals on the ball joints.

roger that 3jack--not just any of the fast lube places either. blowing out the lube point seals is a great way for less than honest places to have you come back later for the replacement of the "well lubed" parts.
