well i am on my second PT my first was a 2002 Base model with a auto and i was lucky if i got 23-25 MPG since i have traded in on my DreamCruiser II with the Turbo I have found the MPG is Better 27-29 MPG I thonk the Added HP lets the engine run a little easyer so the MPG is better
23mpg on unleaded regular (1.98/gallon in my neighborhood this morning) = 11.6 mp$.
27mpg on high octane (2.24/gallon) = 12.3mp$.
Your mileage, and prices, may vary.

What is really happening?

The turbo makes the engine More Efficient.

As for anyone expecting to acheive the EPA MPG figures? Sorry. Not gonna happen. The current numbers are ESTIMATES based on fuel consumed when the car is strapped to the EPA dynos for EMISSIONS testing. Thus the classic disclaimer: Your Mileage may Vary.
(The EPA is under growing pressure to revise the test methodology to achieve more accuracy. Some carmakers are opposed to this change, as they like the current inflated numbers.)

I have found the Car and Driver test loop numbers are a better prediction of real world mileage, they drive like real (lead-footed) people in the real world, not government robots.

Wow... you guys are complaining about getting 25 miles per gallon?[:I] I drive a Dakota with a V6 (not even the 8!!!) and it gets 14 city/ 17 highway. Thats one of the reasons I've been considering trading in on a PT. Sure would miss the cargo space though....

If you don't need the cargo space all the time you can always get a small trailer, I hooked up a 6x8 utility trailer for the summer trip up north. We had a more comfortable ride than other years when we used the Caravan, better gas mileage and I didn't have to worry about all that "junk" inside the car.

As far as gas mileage goes its all in the driving style, I gave up measuring my gas mileage as every time I noticed it was my lead foot killing the numbers. I didn't buy the GT model to go easy on the gas pedal.

Drive it like you stole it!!

I just recently took the back seats out because I rarely use them right now. That took out at least 125lbs right?! Those things are heavy!
We'll see if it makes any difference.
I noticed a nice increase after I installed the supercharger. For highway driving of course, not when I'm actually "using" the supercharger.
On another note, has anyone noticed that when you turn off the car, then get back in a while later and turn it on again, the gas gauge is a lot less than what it was when you turned it off? I can't figure it out. I'm fortunate to only have to drive 4 miles to work, and its killing me. I can't figure it out. Its bad enough I'm only getting about 16mpg going back and forth to work, but then the car eats the gas when its not even running!

Yes! I've noticed the same thing. My opinion is that when driving, the exhaust heats the gas tank a bit, so the gas expands, you shut the engine off, the gas cools & shinks & reads lower. Drive me nuts when I take a short hop, and gas gauge goes down enough to notice.
