Default Is There Any improvement for the Power Train

I was wonder if they are going to improve the the gas milage of this vehicle. I have a TE version that get the same gas milage as new 6 cyl ford Escape. I love the design but hate the poor gas milege of a large four banger. Does anyone have any info on this part of a redesign?

Not likely. The tall body is bad aerodynamics for highway mileage and the lightest one is over 3200lbs.[:I]

2sb is right on. It isn't the engine, it's pushing something that offers lots of wind resistance that weighs way too much. [:0]

If you are thinking about replacing your present vehicle with a car that gets better gas mileage then the PT Cruiser may not be the car for you. However, if you are looking for a fun and practical ride, then, GO FOR IT!!! And, welcome to the forum.

Talk about wind resistance;
I have just picked up the 2005 TE Convertible. After 1500 miles I have noticed i get about 23-24mpg Hwy with the top up and 20mpg Hwy with the top down.

The PT doesnt get bad gas mileage. I have a Sonoma with the 4.3L and it sucked gas like a bitch. With the driving I did in the PT to where I went from full to 1/2 tank, I would have already refilled the tank and used 1/4 of the new tank of gas in the Sonoma. The gas mileage could be better since its a 4 banger but its a big 4 banger. If you run premium it gets better gas mileage because it takes a higher temperature to burn plus it makes your performance better[?].

I had a vega that had a 10gallon gas tank and only
got about 12 mpg. I couldn't go any where.[:0]

I don't think any PT Cruiser owner bought the PT for the gas mileage it offers. I know I bought mine for the performance and the look [8D]. Here's to the GT![^]

I did buy this vehicle because it looks good and function rather well for my job of installing statillite internet and TV. I was hoping when I saw the EPA rating of 29 to 21 that I would get close to the 29 but I never have. I do like the way it does preform with such a large curb weight. The mileage to me was a point that I was looking to gain because I live in the San Deigo, CA area were the average gas cost 2.15 a gallon. That can ad up fast even with the better gas mileage then that of a truck. Maybe the new design will be a little less heft and still be a cool design.
