Default Gas Mileage Improvement

I'm new to this Forum - as of today - and am hopeful that someone might have some suggestions on improving the gas mileage in my 2001 PT Limited Edition. On the hwy, if using Cruise Control I can manage approx 25 mpg, but inner city STINKS!

Any thoughts?

Welcome aquarius to the Forum [^] . The milage you are getting is clese to normal pushing what has been called "a areodynamic brick" down the highway. Aroumd town I have been getting 19 -21 mpg on my '02. Some better on the highway. I must acknowlege that I DO have a heavy foot around town.

Thanks! I had not yet found the other Forum which included quite a bit of feedback on mileage & the "brick" theory. I especially got a chuckle out of the fella who called them a "toaster"

Guess I'll just have to spend the extra $ each week & get used to it. Coming from owning a 93' VW Golf tho, it's a bit of a shock.

Either way, I'm really happy with it so far. Only had it for a month tho - found it in New Jersey through Ebay - only had 6400 miles on it, 3 years old & a complete gem! Gotta love it when the wife says she doesnt look good in it so sell it! I'll take that advantage & drive all the way back to Maine with it

Welcome, Aqiarius69! If you read the other posts, then you got whatever tips we have to offer. Be glad it doesn't need premium - many Hondas & others do! (and the GT)

For starts welcome,
I heard a new non-restrictive exhaust system helps with gas mileage.

I just took my 03 PT on a 2000 mile trip and averaged 27.5 mpg with the auto tran. I was very happy with that. But to have a non restrictive exhaust you need to find a hi-flow cat, from what I understand this is the bottleneck. I haven't found one as of yet.

If you unrestrict the air in and out this should help the mpg. I gained 2mpg by going to Airaid intake and dual exhaust(with Hi-flow cat) on my Dodge Ram.

Blade,
Yes you are right. I have heard or getting 2-5 mpg more just by doing the highflow exhaust cat-back system, and an intake. I eventually with the money factor gone, want to do the same but maybe with the highflow headers too.

I put the AirForce One intake and BTG axil back single exhaust on my '04 GT and my milage went from 17.5 to 14.7! Maybe when I get used to driving somewher back near 55 the mileage will be better. This car seems to be attracted to Mini Coopers and Turbo VW...it want's to race everyone it sees!!!
