Default hesitation when starting

I've had a problem for a while now. When my PT sits for long periods of time (overnight, 3-4 hrs, etc)and I try to start it, it will hesitate when trying to start. I will keep it in the start till it fires up. I've taken it to a reputable dealer here in NC and they hooked it up to the puter and not a thing came up. they even had it overnight and they didn't see what i was talking about. Can anyone give me some advice on this??

I would try some spark plugs and ignition wires.

Have you changed your oil recently?

A question I have, What would be a good set of wires for a N/T PT? [:I]Just bought a set of Champion RE14PLPS (7440) plugs and am contemplating replacing the wires also. I have 25K miles on a '02.

Wait for the "Ping".

Do you wait through all the "pings"... (even that last one that sounds at the same time that the red instrament panel lights turn off) ...before turning the key all the way to the starter?

I got Crane wires from RaceAndStreet, and it cured a "miss" I had. Crewzin just had a problem that went away with new wires also. Seems the stock ignition wires go bad, and your starting problem could be due to wires. I would suggest putting in platinum plugs (Champions) at the same time, since getting at either the wires or plugs is a PITA, so get it over with at the same time.
I probably have 40,000 miles on the plugs and wires now, haven't skipped a beat.[?]

Like QuickSilverDon just said, I changed my wires and hesitation and skipping went away. I had already changed to the Double Platinum plugs awhile back. I got my wires off eBay. There the same set going for auction now if your interested.

The box of wires comes with 2 packets of dieletric grease so no need to buy any, but be sure to use anti-seize on the plugs.

And check the gap - for non-turbo should be 0.050" - 3 out of the 4 were off, a couple quite a bit, right out of the box!

KingKole,

The wires from eBay are a little different that the stock wires as the ends come with a 90 degree angle, the stock wires are straight. They still fit tight and actually snap on. There's room underneath the intake to accommodate the new wires without any trouble.
