Default OEM Shift Knob

Warranty or not, I've decided to replace the (soft) plastic shift knob, part # UY971ZAAB $14.85, with another OEM one, because drivers with jewlry on their right hand have scratched it so badly that it feels like a chewed up pencil in my hand.

One person at the dealer said they would cover it under warranty, another tried to renig on that, so I'll see Monday morning who wins.

I filed a product complaint with 1-800-992-1997 and asked that they make it out of metal instead of plastic, for whatever good that'll do.

Anybody else have a scratched up shift knob?

Thanks quicksilverdon.

The dealer even asked if I wanted to look at aftermarket products, but I haven't seen one yet that I thought was "perfect".

lol. Is that what you've got? I haven't seen any of those (shift knobs).

It would be nice to find different styles though for the automatic, like a horizontal handle with a thumb operated release button, instead of the manual style ball.

Although a family member prefers the ball due to autheritis in her thumb, and was really happy to see that design when we first brought the car home.

So maybe I could just have the plastic one bronzed?? lol.

(Edited to add: Plastic can not be bronzed, or nickle plated.)

All work done, including the gear shift knob, was covered under warranty. The plastic ball does cut and gash easily, so watch out for jewelry on the right hand.
