Default Engine Light

The last few days I have gotten the engine light coming on. I have checked the gas cap everytime and once it was the cap. I think the cap is rattling lose causing the light to come on. The car is running the same as it was before this. Has anyone else experianced this before?

Turn the key on (but not all the way to start), then off, three times fast, then write down the code that will appear in the odometer.

That code will tell you what the problem is.

I can't see the cap rattling lose - do you turn it 'till it clicks? I also understand you may have to pull battery cable to reset a problem condition, even after problem is resolved.
The prior post, about getting the error codes, is the thing to do - then you know what the problem is.

I also had this same thing happen a couple of weeks ago at 13,000 miles and took it to the dealer. They informed me that there was a notice that they had received from Chrysler and that the computer had to be re-programed or something to that effect which they did and the problem was solved. Also, before the engine light came on the first time the car would not start and just cranked over. After two or three attempts it started ok, but the engine light was on. Anyway since they up-dated it, it is all ok. Incendently, it took only about a half hour and they took it right in without an appointment.[^]

bigslim, check to see what codes you are receiving as zzzhuh suggested. I had a similar problem, see this link

zzzhuh,
That's a pretty nifty little trick there. Didn't know about that one.[?]

Thanks for the tips. Today the light was on. I loosened the cap and placed it back on and it was fine. I stopped by the dealer and they will look at it Monday. By the way. it has been a little slow to start on a couple of occasions. THERENTS, this sounds just like the problem you may have had.
